Building a High-Performance Medical Scribing Team from Scratch

What the client was up against.

A US healthcare client had spent over a year attempting to build an in-house medical scribing team and was on the brink of abandoning the initiative. They had hired experienced medical transcriptionists, assuming the skills would transfer — they did not. Medical scribing requires real-time understanding of doctor-patient interactions, clinical comprehension, contextual decision-making, and direct EHR documentation without dictation. The hired transcriptionists could not unlearn dictation-based workflows, lacked real-time listening and clinical interpretation skills, and the project was generating high cost with no measurable ROI. Frustration was mounting and the program was at risk of complete failure.

The solution

How AB7 deployed.

AB7 Solutions diagnosed the root issue: the client was trying to adapt the wrong talent profile instead of building new capability aligned to the role. Medical transcription is not medical scribing. AB7 reset the strategy: source fresh graduates from local colleges and universities — selecting for learning agility, comprehension ability and adaptability instead of years of experience. We then designed a structured custom training framework covering active listening on real-time conversations, medical context understanding, analytical note creation, high-speed accurate typing, and EHR documentation standards. Execution included partnerships with educational institutions for talent sourcing, hands-on training sessions, simulated doctor-patient scenarios, and continuous feedback loops with performance tracking.
